Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called- his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or leader or anything else- not only in this world but also in the world to come. –Ephesians 1:15-21
In the beginning of this passage, I could not help but to pray for the church today to be known for her strong faith in Jesus and her love for others no matter who they are. I think we have a long way to go to be known for these things. My prayer is for God to wake the church up and follow Jesus’ commands: “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40).
I praise the Lord for the church. I praise him that we are a part of one body and we are united in Christ. I thank Him that we are not alone in this journey of faith. I also pray for members in the church constantly as we need to lift each other up at all times. Paul says later in Ephesians we are to “pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. We are also to Stay alert and be persistent in your prayer for all believers everywhere” (6:18). We have the armour of God which is personal and protects the front of us but we need each other to look after each other’s backs. We do this by praying for each other continuously.
Paul says he asks God to give spiritual wisdom and insight so the Ephesians may grow in their knowledge of God. The only way we can have this is by studying and meditating on his Word. As we pray and read the Bible, God shares more of himself to us. Often times I have been shown different things when I read the same portion of Scripture. There have been times that I don’t’ understand a particular passage and later on when I return to that same passage, I have insight into it. Let’s pray for each other to understand God more and more as we study his Word.
May we pray for light to flood our hearts so we can understand the hope we have in Christ. Hope and light are two things that are much needed in the world today. We need these in the church as well. So many people are suffering from depression, sickness, loneliness and much more. We need Christ’s light in our hearts to dispel the darkness. When He comes in and shows us that he is there, hope swells within our hearts. There is a light at the end of the tunnel as they say. We should pray for those in the church who need hope. We also need to pray for the light to be seen in and through us.
I pray for the church as a whole to understand the power we have because we believe in Jesus Christ. The same power raised Jesus from the dead lives in us! Paul says in Romans 8 verse 10, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” Often times my mind cannot get around this amazing truth. Because of the Holy Spirit living within us, we have life and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. If only we lived as people of such power and hope!
Jesus is alive! He is sits at the right hand of God in the heavenly realms. He is above any ruler, any authority and anything else in this world and the world to come! Jesus is Lord! Jesus is the King of kings! Jesus is eternal! Jesus lives forever.
My prayer for the church is she will realise who she is in Christ. Paul prayed this for the Ephesian church. We should pray this for ourselves as well as the church. I cannot help but get excited when I read and pray this passage of scripture.
Father God, I ask that you would open up our eyes. Wake up your church Lord. We have been asleep far too long. We have forgotten who we are in you. Forgive us for our complacency and apathy. Help us to be strong in our faith and love your people without conditions. May we understand your word and grow in spiritual wisdom and in our knowledge of you. Fill us with your light dispelling any darkness that may be within our hearts. Remind us and help us to be confident in hope for we are your children, Christ’s inheritance. Help us to remember whose we are. Enable to us to live in power by the Holy Spirit living in us. Thank you for giving us the Holy Spirit to enable us to live each day. I am amazed in the fact that the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. What an awesome privilege. Oh that we may truly live in this power! Thank you for your Son Jesus Christ who lives in the heavenly realms and will return to take us home. Thank you for hearing and answering our prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
